There are many unforgettable tales related to the origins of coffee. Africa is the coffee hometown. The coffee tree root was first being discovered in Afica. During that time, slavery was implemented and slaves were being traded between Africa and Yemen and the Arabian Peninsula. Coffee was also brought along to each of these places. In the 5th century or earlier, Yemen started to plant coffee. At that time, the Arabian Peninsula, although having the world's busiest harbour --Mocha, it forbade all seed exportation . This barrier was broken by Holland. In 1616, they finally smuggled the coffee-tree and the seeds to Holland. Although the Arabs strictly prohibited the exportation of coffee seed, domestic trade was extremely open. Historically, the first café to open for business was in Mecca.

Holland, who had its colonies in the Asian region, soon started planting the coffee in India. In 1699, coffee was also brought to Indonesia.

In 1683, the European first Cafe opened for business in Venice. However, the most famous was the Cafe which opened in 1729 and is still going on today. The world's biggest London Assurance Company , built up by Cafe is truly worth mentioning.

 
 
   

In 1688, drinking coffee became a craze in South America. Cafes started to sprout in New York, Boston and other North American cities too.

Credit is being given to the Dutch for bringing coffee to Central and South America . Then, the English brought coffee to Jamaica.

Hawaii, USA's only coffee planting region , was started in 1925.

Currently, Brazil is the world's largest coffee producer. It accounts for approximately 30% of the world coffee production. Columbia is the second largest producer, accounting for about 12 % of the output.

According to historical data, coffee was first planted successfully in Taiwan in 1884. It was then brought to engna . The earliest to grow coffee was Yunnan, in the district of Binchuan . It is said to have been introduced by a French missionary in the beginning of the 20 th century. According to reports, Malaysia was first introduced the coffee seedling by an English military officer during the time of the British colonization. As the plants were about to bear fruits, they were attacked by harmful insects. Therefore the military officer brought a bird from his motherland to overcome the insects. However, the bird, none other than the crow, turned out to be more of a problem than not.

However, coffee soon became a part of the social circle , entering the lives of people and their families. The coffee culture started to mushroom and to make its appearance in city cafes. It too became the in-thing of the younger generations.
